Holiday Party

you're invited.

Holiday Party time! Let's drink champagne and dance on the table. But realistically let's drink Chardonnay and sit at the table. Ya know-company party, sigh. Regardless let's look good doing it. I found the absolute BEST pieces from Target on a complete whim the day before this event. This dress was the last one on the rack. Plain, black, simple, perfect. My lipstick was more expensive I mean come. on.

Family
I borrowed the watch that I wore from my wonderful sister. It is plain gold by Marc Jacobs. (similar)

Happy Holidays!

6 Tools to Survive Finals

  • Lululemon Scuba Hoodie & Wunder Under Pant: easily some of the cutest and most comfortable clothing a girl could own. Some love Lulu for working out, doing yoga, or exerting some sort of physical activity but I prefer wearing mine to late night study sessions in the library. Oops.
  • Bath & Body Works Holiday Candle in "Cinnamon Caramel Swirl": Works as both a pick-me-up and a source of motivation because it reminds you that Christmas and homemade treats are right around the corner!
  • Stay hydrated with a Camelbak: I prefer the stainless steel version because it keeps liquids colder, longer. I remember reading an article that had studies showing that people who drink from Camelbaks actually drink more water without even realizing. After owning one myself I can see why.
  • Iced Coffee: caffeine is never negotiable.
  • Lilly Pulitzer Agenda: never miss an assignment if you have the motivation to document all of the work you need to do & when. This is where I document all of my clubs & orbs meetings, homework assignments, group project meetings, and even basic to-do lists.
Good Luck!

Weekend in The Big Apple: A Recap

Location: New York City
Occasion: Avery's Birthday

View of Central Park & the skyline from our room…beautiful.
I'll never forget when Avery's dad stole handfuls of hotel chocolates off the maid's cart and threw them into our room…highly recommended.

Ice skating in Rockefeller Center-so fun. It's something I always wanted to do at the time. However, now that I have I feel like  next time I'm in the city, I would spend my money elsewhere because it can get expensive with the skate rentals and ice time.
Max Brenner's however, is an absolute must for all chocolate lovers girls. With a total of five locations in the United States, if you're lucky enough to have time in the city, I'd highly highly recommend it.
Carriage ride through Central Park: beautiful. Though it was pretty darn freezing outside, we had a great time experiencing the park with all of the wonderful Christmas lights.
Hey guys!
Until next time!

Today's Regalia: Neutrals & Lilac

Scarf: Purchased on vacation at a Club Med in Punta Cana, DR

This sweater and these flats have a lot in common: both the color and comfort level. The sweater is extremely soft and stretchy. The flats have a cushy sole that strongly resembles a Tempur-Pedic mattress. Seriously.

Today's Regalia: Vintage Piece//Modern Style

Okay, I loooove thrifting. Some of my favorite pieces I own have been previously owned by somebody whom I have never met-weird? The concept bothers a lot of people but I find that as long as I wash before I wear I'm okay with it all. I'm also 95% sure this is a men's sweater because of the super-high V-neck. But like, whatever…it's cozy.

Sweater: Vintage J.Crew ($2 at a thrift store)
Jacket: Max Jeans
Hat: Target
Necklace: Tiffany & Co.

#Basic

Three basics that I could seriously not live without.

First let's begin with my personal favorite: the J.Crew Pixie Pants. These sturdy pants that strongly resemble leggings make it okay to wear leggings as pants. (Personally I think it's always okay to wear leggings as pants as long as they are not transparent…but ya know that's all personal preference.) I actually wear these twice a week and would wear them everyday if it was socially acceptable. 100% worth the money.

Next let's move on to another fan fave: the Madewell Perfect Chambray. Honestly so perfect with any set of cords, leggings, no matter the color or print. Layer it under sweaters in the winter or toss it over a swimsuit in the summer. Love.

Ahh the trench coat. This is that piece of your wardrobe that will take you from average to fabulous in two seconds flat. With a belt that takes your waist right it, it flatters your entire body. Also, most of these coats (you'd have to check on yours!) are water-resistant. I bought mine from Target by the brand Merona roughly three, maybe four years ago on sale for $25. Sadly they no longer have it on the website but I found a similar-looking Calvin Klein (hello, upgrade) one. This is the type of piece that you can honestly find on ANY budget. I mean, if we could all own a Burberry one we already would right?

These two girls have been my best friends for almost 10 years. Anytime I need someone they're there for me. It's a level of friendship that I feel unbelievably blessed to have had for the past decade.

Fall 2013 Daily Beauty Regime

 Face!

  1. After moisturizing, apply a thin layer of MAC Prep & Prime Tinted face primer.
  2. Apply MAC Studio Fix Concealer to any red spots and under the eye area. If you have oily skin I would recommend this concealer. However for dry skin, I would use a more liquid-based concealer to add moisture to the skin.
  3. Take a kabuki brush and apply BareMinerals all over the face to desired coverage. Mineral make-up is the best because you can add coverage in layers without it looking cake-y.
  4. Next, with an angled contour brush, I contour my cheeks with NARS Bronzer in "Laguna". Contouring your cheeks defines the face and lifts your cheek bones.

Eyes!
  1. First prime your eyes with MAC Paint Pot in the neutral color "Painterly". Using a colored eye primer neutralizes any veiny or red discoloration under the thin layers of skin on the eye.
  2. Next apply neutral eyeshadows of choice from the half-matte/half-shimmery Lorac Pro Palette.
  3. Then for eyeliner, I have been in love with Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon. It's ridiculously smooth and effortlessly smudge-able. I leave my lower waterline clean and only apply this to my tight line and upper lash line.
  4. Finish the eyes with Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara.

Lips!

  1. On clean lips, apply any mauve/rose colored lip liner to ensure all-day color. I've been using Milani's Easy Liner in Rose Pink.
  2. Finish off with a moisturizing tinted lip balm. I've been using either Burt's Bees in "Rose" or Yes to Carrots in "Soft Plum".

Starbucks Etiquette

This was a short paper I wrote in high school for psychology class. I'm pretty sure it landed somewhere under the topic of personality types. Regardless, I just re-read it and thought it was kind of silly. Enjoy my poor and adolescent writing skills.

Starbucks Etiquette
Upon waking up today my friend and I drove to Starbucks to get ourselves some morning beverages. We ordered our venti soy chai lattes and sat down waiting anxiously for our names to be called. People watching in a constant hustle & bustle environment is always exciting. The line to order was out the door per-usual. My dear friend and I witnessed one of the biggest crimes one can possibly commit in a coffee shop: cutting the line. The culprit was a little girl, roughly 8 years old holding a small coin purse that carried a few 1 dollar bills. Eager for her 100 grams of sugar/30 grams of fat in a tall cup that the baristas call “frappuccinos”, she wedged her way under the rope and perched herself just in front of an elderly couple. The couple smiled at each other and let her order in their place, even though they had been waiting patiently for what must have been more than 10 minutes. Senior citizens can go either way: they can be generous and kind or the complete opposite: grouchy and unnerving. This couple could have been either kind of personality however they allowed the little girl to cut them probably because she was just a child, and children can get away with small mishaps such as passing the 20-person line in a coffee shop. Wouldn’t it be nice?

Today's Regalia/Morning Routine

This semester on Tuesdays I am lucky enough to begin class at 12:30. Naturally, I roll out of bed just before 11, ready to start my day. My morning routine when I have plenty of time to get ready generally goes as follows:
-shower
-turn on Lana Del Rey radio
-get dressed
-makeup/jewelry
-blow-dry (with head upside down)
-run a wand through the bottom half of my hair in 2-inch sections

Sorry for the mirror pic-I hate me too. Striped chambray from J.Crew, necklace from Madewell, Pixie Pants from J.Crew, flats from Banana Republic, Skagen watch, Lokai bracelet

I then gather my things for class, then walk over to Starbucks for a Venti Iced Coffee with Soy & 1 pump of pumpkin (fall/winter) or raspberry (spring/summer). There I enjoy my coffee and Rise Breakfast Bar (contains only 5 organic ingredients!) while looking over my Lilly agenda to plan the rest of my day.

Newport Boat Show

This past Sunday I got to spend a beautiful say in Newport with one of my best friends whom I do not get to see too often. We spent the day touring yachts at the Newport Yacht Club, shopping on Thames St., and ate a quick bite at 22 Bowens. After meeting so many new people throughout my first three weeks at college, it was great to see an old friend who I can always be myself around.

My attire was nothing too spectacular-last minute day trips never come with time to pick out the perfect outfit. Just a plain red and cream striped Madewell long sleeve, black ankle leggings & black espadrille-style Toms. However my daily arm candy seemed to stack perfectly that day.

From Left to Right: glass Buddha (random find), Lokai, Skagen watch (my father's), 2 Alex & Ani's

Neutrals with Pops of Color

4th Festivities

Okay so I know this looks really bad but (ask my mom) we did NOT plan this. Whatever though. From left to right: Avery in J.Crew, Myself in J.Crew & Lilly belt, and Caitlin in Lilly with Lilly belt. Nothing better than celebrating the States with good people and good fireworks on Cape Cod. America frick yeah.

Bag Of The Season - Summer 2013

Miss Spade never fails when it comes to well-built, original, colorful handbags. I snagged this piece in a recent secret sale (if you're not on their e-mail list, you need to figure it out) for less than two hundred bucks. It's spring/summer wearability made it an easy choice because of the versatility and the amount of wear I'll get out of it. It's solid bold color allows me to pair it with any summer outfit seamlessly. The double straps make it a perfect half betchy (handle), half I-really-need-two-hands-to-shop-now-thx-bye (shoulder) all in one situational accessory. Thanks, Kate.
